Let us be therapists with our words. Ano ba yung therapy? Masakit ang iyong buto, hinimas-himas para gumaling. Mayroon kang karamdaman, minamasa-masahe, binigyan ng mga tamang lunas, gumaling. Pero wala na yatang mas effective na therapy kaysa therapeutic words. Nakakapagpagaling yan. Mayroong isang tao nakangiti maghapon. Kumakanta-kanta habang nagsasaing. Bakit? Nasabihan pala ng “I love you.” Kahit lumindol, bumuka ang lupa, magkaroon ng storm surge, nakangiti pa rin yan.
So what are therapeutic words? Not unwholesome words, but words that build up. Words of sincere praise at hindi pambobola. Lagi tayong may makikitang kapuri-puri sa tao. Huwag na nating hanapin yung mga kapintasan. Matuto rin tayong maging mapagpasalamat. Hindi ba kahit sobra tayong nahihirapan, biglang nabubura ang pagod basta nasabihan lang ng “Salamat”? Pero kung hindi ka man lang napasalamatan, parang ibig-ibig mong bawiin kung ano yung ibinigay mo. Kasi mahalaga yung word of appreciation.
Dapat marunong din tayong magsabi ng “I’m sorry.” Kahit tayo pa ang pinakamatanda sa pamilya, ang breadwinner, ang pinakamataas ang I.Q., o ang pinakamaganda, pag nagkakamali tayo, say, “I’m sorry.” Dakilang tao ang nagsasabi nyan. Why do we have to bear all these in mind? Because words need to be said. Spoken words are powerful. Spoken words heal.
